The food was good and the drinks were great. The service was cool. We were seated promptly and the food didn't take long to prepare.

This place is a fab spot for summer outdoor dinging. But it's cold right now so we will sit inside.. Great spot to bring friends for dinner! We had kinda a big group on a Sunday night. 8 people and a baby, but the staff at La Hacienda got us right in and rolling on the chips and Salsa. The chips and salsa were fantastic as was our server at keeping the baskets of chips full! You think we would have been stuffed before our meal even arrived but, I hadn't eaten all day so I was ready for it. I ordered veggie fajitas and they were amazing, cooked to perfection and a huge portion, I cleaned my plate! Left a nice fat tip, and will be back soon!

Disappointed. Bummed because I'd only heard good things. I ordered a vegetarian combo with a bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and cheese quesadilla. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately it was lukewarm. The cheese in the enchilada was cold and not melted. Normally plates at these places are piping hot! A friend's chile relleno was mushy and lukewarm too.

Went for lunch. The service was okay, we were seated promptly, we were greeted early, and our food was brought out quickly. However, we didn't end up getting the guacamole we ordered and then couldn't flag down our waiter to ask about it until our entrees were out and had given up on it. We were still billed for the guac though so we had to ask for it to be removed by the cashier who took a bit of cajoling to convince that we weren't trying to get out of paying what we should. Though none of this is ideal, it was a lunch shift so the waiters are taking bigger sections and have lower tickets so I am not too bothered by any of this (especially since the meals were so inexpensive). As for the food, I got the special which was a lunch burrito. It was.... fine. I asked for it to be as spicy as possible and it came out about a level-2 on a 10 point scale. They did have Cholula and a habanero bottled hot sauce on the table though so those helped me get it up to a 6. I will likely go back for lunch in the future, I doubt I'll return for dinner though. Everything was a bit bland but for a cheap lunch in that neighborhood, it's a reasonable choice.

Quick friendly service, great happy hour, ok food. I've been here about 3-4 times. Every time the service has been very friendly, most recently was a very sweet, younger woman who I think has been one of the nicest servers I've had in a long time. The gents are also nice. We like the happy hour. The prices are great but don't expect much ambiance if you're sitting at the bar. I've eaten here twice. Both times the food has come out fast, hot, and it's been good. The only thing that gets me is the food has never came out as described in the menu. The first time I had the trio of enchiladas with cheese, seafood, and shrimp in the mushroom sauce. I was so excited. It wasn't a mushroom sauce. It was cheese. The second time I ordered the carne Colorado/verde dish. It says steak on the menu but I got pork. Not a big deal but I can see how it would be for some people. The verde sauce was great, the pork came with different kinds, there were some burnt crispy pieces (delicious), some tender meaty pieces, and some fatty pieces I couldn't eat. Both times we went my boyfriend has had no complaints about his food. In summation of this too long of a review, we go for the happy hour and eat if we're hungry. It's always been solid, if incorrect but the service is great.

I was disappointed by the service. I asked about one of the specials before I ordered and selected something posted on the whiteboard. When I went to pay, my bill was more expensive than I expected. I pointed to the board and said that I had the special. The waiter said that the board is not current and then erased the board charging me an exuberant amount.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in Des Moines. This low key Mexican Restaurant is great. The food is good and affordable. The service is fast. And the queso and margaritas are always delicious. It might not be the fanciest Mexican Restaurant but it's local and is always a fun place to go eat.

Great service. Average food. The waiters here are great. Friendly, coutreous, and attentive. We never had to wait for anything. The atmosphere is fine. The seats were old and broke down but everything was clean. When our food came though I was disappointed. I ordered the same thing I do at the other La Hacienda on Army Post, Chili Rellanos and enchiladas. They were not as good here. My wife's meal was average as well. Nothing special. I wish they could trade service staff or cooking staff with the other location..since that one had amazing food and horrible service. Then you would have a top mexican restaurant.

Not so good. Chips were stale and unsalted, margaritas were watery, salsa was like tomato sauce. Spend your money and calories elsewhere.

The food here was ok but the service was terrible. I've always had great service from the Army Post location and was hoping for the same here. Started out that we had to ask for our chip and salsa. My food did not come out to me until after my dining companions were almost done with theirs. My waiter never came around to see if we needed any additional tortillas. I had to find my own to-go box. We never got a bill, but when I went to the cash register they tried to overcharge me. I will never go back to this location.

Affordable, nice environment, good service. Food was as expected (nothing fancy or gourmet but good). Recommended to have a nice time, a beer and adequate Mexican food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
